Our Origin Story

Parent University 2.0 emerged from the invaluable insights shared by educators and administrators during the 4th District’s Monday Morning Roll Call meetings. These sessions, where schools report on their progress and community developments, highlighted the importance of addressing the academic and social needs of scholars. A pivotal moment came from a remark made by Mayor Cherelle L. Parker during a meeting with Councilmember Curtis Jones, Jr. As a single parent, Mayor Parker expressed the desire for a centralized resource hub that could support her son’s academic and social journey. This gap in resources became the driving force behind the development of Parent University 2.0.

Parent University 2.0 was the vision of Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr. and came to life through the efforts of his dedicated team. The event brought together over 75 local and citywide vendors, including major service providers, and featured a variety of workshops and resources and a college fair—all in one location, on a single day. This dynamic event served as a powerful platform to connect families with essential tools, offering access to opportunities that may have once been difficult to find.

In response to this, Parent University 2.0 strives to provide a holistic approach to family empowerment, ensuring that every parent has the resources to engage meaningfully with their child’s growth and development. We are proud to present ParentUPhilly.com, a comprehensive online resource designed to equip parents with the tools and support necessary to help their families thrive.
